The core technology of modern surge arresters is based on advanced metal oxide varistor (MOV) technology. It uses high-performance MOV blocks as their core component, which are highly non-linear resistors.
Under normal voltage conditions, these MOV blocks act as insulators. When surge voltage rises above the arrester’s reference level, the MOV blocks rapidly switch to a conductive state, safely diverting excess energy to the earth. Once the transient condition subsides, the MOV blocks automatically return to their insulating state and repeat this protective cycle as needed.
